Oh, to be a duck on the Neuse!!

This morning at about 6:30, I was standing at the edge of the Neuse River to watch the sun as it rose like a giant orange ball on the eastern cup of the sky. There was some wild life activity on the stillness of the river today,  and very soon a family of ducks appeared around a fluff of tall reeds and deep foilage that had previously screened them from view.  They seemed close to me, but the ducks were not alarmed of me and so they swam on serenely.  It seemed as if they were pulled by a magnet to the rising sun. There was a deep feeling of stillness on the river.  With a philosophical feeling of rapport, I sensed that the ducks were moving towards a destination with great "dignity and aplomb".  They knew who they were!  They knew where they were going!  There was no ruffling of feathers on the Neuse River this morning and I envied the ducks their destiny of easy passage.
