Night of the Symphony - 300 Year Jubilee

Gov Perdue says "Happy Bithday, New Bern!"
Here are some of my favorite photos from the Tryon Palace Jubilee held last night on the South Lawn.  In case you missed it--it was great fun.  I was hoping to see James Taylor there with the Symphony-- I had heard a rumor (at one time) that he might be invited.   I was unreasonably disappointed.

While enjoying the special  touch of candle lamps illuminating the footpaths of the  gardens, the soft auditory tones of the symphonic soundtrack seemed to lead us back into an ancient time. The highlight for me was a flock of pigeons that were perched like an audience on the roof of the Palace. They had a supernatural synchronicity with the orchestra and they entertained by flying out and back again in time with the music. A splash of fireworks appeared over the Trent River at the momentous point of crescendo of the 1812 Overture.  The evening felt to be fulsome with supernatural delight!
