If ever you would seek an intense feeling of solemn but exhilarating reality, then attend the opening ceremonies of an Algonquin Powwow. Within the measured beat-beat of drum, a self defining reality emerges as it combines with elements of chanting, sprays of vivid color , and dance. When experienced as a whole-- the increasingly prescient moments begin to synthesize themselves into feelings of electrifying power.
The only way I could find to describe it to my Mother later in the afternoon was:
"I felt like I was Home."
The Tribal Vice-Chief, Spirittree, sold me a dream-catcher.
She shot me a seeing glance and replied,
"Hang it in your bedroom, not in your car. People don't sleep in their cars."
As if to say that only the Ignorant People would hang a dream-catcher in their cars.
