The Battle of New Bern and the Golden Hour of Morning

The air was oppressively hot on May 8th, the day of the "battle". I was really worried about the reenactors in their heavy clothing. Perhaps, by chance, there was a cool breeze blowing inland from the Neuse River that helped to cool them off, because as it turns out, they survived the day.  Since it was far too hot for what I wanted to do that day, I just picked up my camera in the golden hour of morning to head down to Union Point. The photos taken during the early morning hour are very demure considering that at 6:00 PM the "War of Northern Aggression" would begin to capitulate upon
Olde New Berne.

I just like this picture.  The guy with the stove-pipe hat had me mesmerized.
